How to: Warehouse Design
Clougistic Warehouse Management System is highly customizable when it comes to design, user roles and permissions. It’s very easy to tailor to your existing warehouse(s), its layout and your employees. Simply create and change the warehouse design in Clougistic by adding and changing warehouses, zones for storing / picking, packing tables and printers. Even Point of Sale (POS) zones can be added.
Let’s say you have different area’s (zones) in your warehouse where you store goods.
- Zone 1 has narrow aisles with racks and is used for storing and picking single / smaller items. Order pickers in zone 1 use picking carts with multiple bins to collect products for the customer (web)orders.
- Zone 2 is used for storing bulk and volume items, for example items on pallets or in boxes. Order pickers in zone 2 use forklift trucks to collect the goods for the customer (web)orders.
- Zone 3 is a store / showroom where you sell your products (POS). Customers can grab the products they need and checkout at the cash register.
Now, a forklift can’t be used for order picking in zone 1 because of the narrow aisles and not all the order pickers / warehouse employees can drive the forklift trucks.
Zone 3 is the store / showroom. You don’t want your staff running around with a picking cart or driving a forklift in your showroom 😉 so let’s move on and prevent that.
User roles & permissions
Start with creating the users and define their roles and permissions in Clougistic. Choose from the predefined roles such as picker, packer, purchaser or create a new role with the permissions of your choice.
You also need to choose a company (entity) for each user. Let’s say you have two companies (entities) located at the same warehouse. One advantage of Clougistic’s unique entity feature is that you can assign each employee to one or more companies. Let that sink in for a moment.
Start your warehouse design by adding your first warehouse and it’s zones. Select if your zone has locations or not. In our example Zone 1 and 2 have locations (racks, shelfs or marked areas on the floor). Each location is identified with a barcode, so Clougistic “knows” exactly where your goods are. Because Clougistic is a paperless WMS, the barcodes are needed for storing and picking your goods. Zone 3, your store / showroom, has no zones so the goods are scanned at the checkout when a customer brings them to the cash register.
Select the users
So far, so good. Now you need to select the users which are allowed to work in the specific zone. This is where you assign your licensed forklift truck driver to zone 2 (bulk) and your store employee to zone 3 (store / showroom).
Packing tables and printers
The next step is to add packing tables and printers which can be used for packing and sending goods. Select the allowed users for the specific packing table and create the print nodes for printing the packing slip, invoice and shipping labels.
The last step is to add your logistic units that are used for picking orders. In this example you got picking carts which are used for order picking in zone 1 (picking) and pallets for order picking in zone 2 (bulk). Choose the desired process method, define the unit count and it’s dimension’s and select the allowed users.
The warehouse design in Clougistic is ready and the user roles & permissions are defined. When employees sign in at Clougistic, they can only access the entities, warehouses, zones, logistic units, packing tables and printers there allowed to.
